7 Tips on How to Avoid Spyware and Viruses

Spyware and viruses are two different things that can affect your computer in a nasty way. Both are summed up under the title “malware” for malevolent software.

Viruses

Viruses are computer programs that perform a specific action, usually an unpleasant one, like destroying files. Some viruses are simply for fun and although annoying, do no damage. One such virus was the “Happy” virus, back when these programs were fairly new. It popped up in a window that said “Smile! Have a nice day!”, and did nothing more.

Since viruses send themselves and are usually self-replicating, they carry all their code with them and are fairly easy to identify if not eradicate. For this reason, anti-virus programs have a nearly perfect score when it comes to fighting off viruses. Continue reading this: free mobile spy apps

Viruses replicate themselves in whole. Travelling as complete packages, they arrive in downloads and emails, among other things. New transportation methods are evolving every day for computer viruses.

Spyware

Spyware is usually remotely run from a website. This sneaky software loads itself into your computer and hides, watching your every move, recording passwords and other valuable information and reporting it back to the owner of the Spyware. This can result in identity theft.

Spyware is much more difficult to get rid of than a virus because it not only has to be identified, but traced back to its source, something that even the best anti-spyware programs cannot always do. Since it takes a lot longer to identify a piece of Spyware as compared to a virus, anti-spyware applications are often outdated.

These unpleasant programs don’t replicate themselves. Rather, when you visit a website that has a Spyware program, it will “hop” onto your computer and begin to download what it needs in order to report back to the mothership. These programs also change the configuration of your computer to make life easier for themselves. You need visit this link: free mobile spy apps

Prevention

Prevention is the best medicine, as they say. It is extremely true in this case. Here are just a few ways to protect your Pc from malware:

Buy and install an anti-virus program. There are plenty available on the market. You don’t even have to leave home to buy one; they are available for download online. MacAfee or Norton is two well-known brands. Buy and install an anti-spyware application. These are also available online, but be careful to purchase from a reputable organization. For PCs, Microsoft has an anti-spyware program called Windows Defender. Keep your system updated. Update your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs regularly to stay protected. Don’t visit risky websites. These include adult websites or other sites that involve lots of download. Be careful when downloading. Instead of opening files or programs immediately, download them first as a closed file, and then scan them for problems before opening or installing. Scan all files given to you by friends, even ones you trust. Often, a person won’t realize they have a virus until it has already done its damage and they may accidentally pass it on. Use a secure email system. An email service that pre-scans emails for problems is a very good idea, but even if you don’t have access to one, avoid opening emails from people you don’t know, especially if they carry an attachment. If at all possible, scan attachments from people you know as well, since their computer might send a virus to you without their knowledge.
